OPEN WATER SERIES RACE 1 11th June 2019 18:00

We're going to hold the first open-water race of the year next Tuesday, 11 June at West Wittering beach. (That's weather conditions permitting, obviously: no one would enjoy two hours on a rainy beach in a gale...) The distances will be age-appropriate and this event is open to all members, including trial swimmers and Masters.

High tide is at 19.30, so we'll aim to check swimmers in by about 18.00, do the first safety briefing at roughly 18.15 and get the racing going at about 18.30–18.45. Wetsuits are required for this race: the water's warming up, but is still a bit colder than last year. Swimmers must
a) sign up using the sign-up sheet
b) check in and
c) attend the safety briefing or they will not be allowed to race.

There will be sign-up sheet taped to the door onto poolside tonight and again on Friday, and Friday's training sessions will be open-water skills-based. If you feel able to help administer this event, please add your name to the 'Parent helper?' column; if you have a kayak or SUPs to provide water patrol alongside the lifeguards, it would be great. If there are sufficient helpers we're hoping there can be a bring-your-own-sausages barbecue, but we'll confirm this nearer the time.
