Dear All,

Please see below important update and information for Chichester Cormorants return to swimming; something we have spent lots of time in consultation.  As we look towards returning shortly to the pool, this note explains some of the background and context in which we are now operating in and the next steps in terms of activities, that need to be completed by all swimmers and workforce.

1. Contact Details

In fast moving and uncertain times, relaying key information or changes will be vitally important over the coming months.  Our principal communication is via email, through Swim Club Manager, therefore, we are requesting everyone to log-in and review now and if necessary, update your personal details to ensure we have the most up-to-date information.

 2. Declarations

As part of Swim England’s guidance for clubs and prior to any return to training, we are required to provide three declarations for all members/parents to review and digitally sign:

  • Covid-19 and Risk Awareness Declaration
  • Pre-training Covid-19 Health Screen Declaration
  • 'Return to Training: Swimmers Briefing’ Declaration

We suggest you set aside some time to familiarise yourself with the 'Return to Training: Swimmers Briefing’ document.  The briefing is a guide as to what to expect upon your return to training and to help ensure this is carried out safely for all involved.  The briefing will also highlight the continued requirements for safe social distancing and will include details on what to do before leaving home, on arrival at the centre, in the water itself and after finishing your session, including a video to show how things will run.

Links to the above documents will be emailed later this week and should be completed as soon as possible afterwards but must be signed before you attend your first session.  This is a requirement of Swim England and their insurers, as we are required to commit and adhere to them.  Please note that if all three of these documents are not signed, you will not be allowed to enter poolside.

3. Phased Return and Proposed Timetable

We have agreed with Everyone Active (EA), a resumption of club swimming activities on Monday 17th August 2020.  Ahead of this, Darren and Paul are running a test session with limited swimmers by invitation only, on Wednesday 12th August.  These will be with two lanes, Gold Academy and Performance Elite, to test our new systems and get a feel for what we can and can’t do in practical terms.

However, I also wanted to put our phased timetable below into context.  EA have only recently provided us with their revised pool timetable, which has impacted on our own sessions due to EA’s swimming lessons and/or closing of the pool to clean in between them/us.  This will continue for the foreseeable future but at least the swimmers can start training and is better than not swimming at all, as experienced by many other swimming clubs!

In developing our phased return to training, we’ve taken the following into consideration:

  • Swim England advice that ‘When participants return to training it should be gradual [and] progressive’
  • The number of swimmers initially wanting to return in each squad
  • The reduction in swimmer numbers per lane
  • Available coaching resources
  • The (newly limited) pool time within the EA Westgate timetable

The committee do not feel it would be sensible/responsible to commit immediately to a full programme, as both the coaches and swimmers need time to acclimatise to the new way of training.  Please also note that it is possible that lane allocations/the timetable will need further adjustment as we go forward.

Only those swimmers that completed the Return to Swimming Survey and indicated that they wanted to return to swimming immediately have been included in this initial phased return.  All other swimmers will be contacted once the club are in a position to increase swimmer numbers in the pool or if spaces become available.

As such, the phased timetable is as follows:

From w/c 17 August 2020:

MONDAY (6 lanes)

19.30 – 20.30: Academy, all squads

20.30 – 21.30: Performance Elite and Junior

WEDNESDAY (6 lanes)

19.00 – 20.00: Academy, all squads

20.00 – 21.00: Performance Elite and Junior

THURSDAY (2 lanes)

06.30 – 07.30: Masters

SUNDAY (2 lanes)

08.00 – 09.00: Masters

From w/c 07 September 2020:

MONDAY (6 lanes)

19.30 – 20.30: Academy, all squads

20.30 – 21.30: Performance Elite and Junior

TUESDAY (Land Training – Minerva Studio)

19.30 – 20.30: Performance Elite

WEDNESDAY (6 lanes)

19.00 – 20.00: Academy Gold, Performance Junior, Performance Fitness 1 (younger)

20.00 – 21.00: Performance Elite, Masters, Performance Fitness 2 (older)

THURSDAY (2 lanes)

06.30 – 07.30: Masters

FRIDAY (6 lanes)

19.30 – 20.30: Academy, all squads

19.00 – 20.00: Performance Elite Land Training (Minerva Studio)

20.00 – 20.30: Performance Junior Land Training (Minerva Studio)

20.30 – 21.30: Performance Elite and Junior

SUNDAY (2 lanes)

08.00 – 09.00: Masters

We will then review the timetable again in early October, with a view to bringing in the Sunday session from 07.30 – 09.00 for more squads.  We are trying, as far as possible, to bring all squads back to swimming in a sensible, planned way, in the context of reduced hours available in the pool and swimmer numbers per lane being cut by 40%.  We fully understand that whatever we do will not suit everyone but unfortunately, we have little choice for the foreseeable future.

Membership fees for all returning swimmers will be due in full in advance from the 1st September 2020.  Invoices for the 1st September will be sent out in advance to remind everyone to amend and reinstate standing orders.

Many thanks for your continued support and I look forward to seeing many of you back at the pool soon, socially distant of course!
